YO! Poker Surfers and Surfettes!
GSN's High Stakes Poker Season 7 debuted last night and unfortunately we watched it. Usually we're not to hard on some poker tv, because we love it however this show was just a tragedy. Here's a review
First it's obviously devoid of players like Tom Dwan, Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey, Eli Elezra and any other Full Tilt Poker pro because Poker Stars want's the exclusive on that. Well that's just stupid, now you're missing out on some of the biggest cash game players and the interaction that they have with the other players at the table along with built in reputations and characteristics. So that sucks. Then there's the host Norm MacDonald who you couldn't half way tell on SNL if he was trying to be funny or not and it's worst on this show. The decision to place him as the host seems to be single handedly one of the stupidest decisions EVER for a poker show, EVER. Now luckily Kara Scott is back and at least she's hot, even though the interviews are pretty much pointless she makes up for it in just her talking. She has a nice sounding voice and good presence on camera.
The show brought in some wealthy amateurs like Robert Croak the inventor of SillyBrandz, Bill Klein a retired businessman and Treasure Island Hotel and Casino owner and BILLIONAIRE Phil Ruffin. Ruffin actually donates all his winnings to charity and matches any loses he incurs and donates that too! So you would think the pro's would be happy about this money sitting at the table but (editing probably had some play in this too) in one of the first hands Vanessa Selbest (who is as boring as still water) gets in a hand with amateur Robert Croak who in trying to feel out her bluff raise and he asks her "how much do you have behind?" now that is a good question and tactic, however it's usually seen in tournaments to see if that person is worried about their tournament life being at stake and get some sort of tell/read off of them. It's also used in cash games to feel them out b/c knowing you might lose your dough will usually give a tell too. Well he ends up calling and she loses her AQos against his JJ. Now after that Doyle Brunson for some reason pipes up and tells Croak that if someone asks him that question he doesn't tell them because it's right in front of them and Doyle said it in such away that it was like he was trying to establish who the "top dogs" were at the table, or maybe he was just taking up for Selbest but it just came across rude and Croak was very apologetic. As a side note, the game has changed. There may be "pro's" out there but they don't make their money anymore from winnings. They make it from sponsorships and paid engagements regardless of winning or losing. The "pro's" sit down with "amateurs" and say they have an advantage but they don't b/c these "amateurs" play regularly and have way more money behind them in cash games then the "pro's", save for Phil Ivey and others who got in on the ground floor with FT. Like we said though, Doyle was probably just trying to take up for Selbest.
Another notable amateur mistake that was the only real entertaining part of the show was when "amateur" Bill Klein tried to raise out of turn, but instead of it seeming light hearted everyone was just frozen and not at all warmed up even though you know this was several hours of play edited for tv.
All in all this first episode sucked, but we'll keep you tuned in on the next one, we're hoping it's light years better!

Rip Curl of Poker News
Poker Surfers and Surfettes here it is!
RIP CURL:Poker News
RIP CURL:Poker News
- World Poker Tour is back! WPT Season IX debuted Sunday on FSN-Fox Sports Network and of course Mr. Vince Van Patten and the PPA advocate Mike Sexton are back to give the play by plays.
- Full Tilt Poker has signed a "mindset coach". Sam Chauhan has helped several top poker pro's with their game and now has signed a deal w/the US's top poker site in order to host a "Mindset Academy". The goal is to help as many players as possible with their "tilt control" and improve their game. Visit Sam's site here at www.changingyou.com
- Gus Hansen is up over $5 Million since October of 2010 and is still in the black for 2011. Hopefully the "Great Dane" will have a great year.
- Peter Eastgate announced he was coming out of retirement after being gone for the blink of any eye and selling his WSOP bracelet via Ebay. But in his defense he did say he "retired" b/c he lost focus of what was important to him and lost his love of the game. Hopefully the break has re-ignited his love of the game. Good luck easty!
- Jeremy Johnson dumped millions away playing on Full Tilt and PokerStars. Who is Jeremy Johnson, well he is one of the main guys attached to the companies IWorks and Elite Debit. Two companies under investigation of the FTC-Federal Trade Commission for fraud after allegedly scamming over $270 Million from people across the nation in fake memberships for false services. The commission had the co's assets frozen but notice several millions of dollars were missing. Johnson had been living it up in Vegas gambling and playing in some of the highest nose-bleed tourney's on Full Tilt and PokerStars.

Gabe Kaplan no longer the host of GSN's High Stakes Poker season 7
whhhhoooa that's right poker surfers Gabe Kaplan is not the host of this seasons High Stakes Poker on GSN. who will it be........NORM MACDONALD....uh yeah Norm MacDonald, the boring guy from Saturday Night Live aka Mr. Dry Sense of Humor. Ok so we're not really thrilled about that but lets face it, after they let AJ Benza go the chemistry was never the same. Kara Scott will still be on as the hostess on the floor talking to the pros' but she won't be talking to any Full Tilt Poker pro's since they won't be on this season. Yeah you heard right, no FT pros b/c PokerStars snuck in and bought out the sponsorship rights so FT isn't having any of their pro's on. So no Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Eli Elezra, Gus Hansen, etc.. but you'll still have Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu negraenu (whatever) Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, Andrew Robl, Phil Galfond, Vanessa Selbst, Jason Mercier, Jonathan Duhamel and Johnny Chan just to name a few. We'll see how this season goes, it starts Feb.26 at 8pm and was filmed at the Bellagio.
Side note, it will aslo be shown in 3-D. Because that obviously makes sense right, kinda like having Norm MacDonald as the host. Anyway good luck GSN

Rip Curl: Bellagio Robbery Suspect is a Judge's Son
yeah Poker Surfers it's your Rip Curl of quick poker news
This Wednesday a 29yr. son of a judge was arrested in connection with the Bellagio Robbery back in December. The suspect is Anthony Michael Carleo (not Michale Corleone he was not real, but still smarter) who tried selling "High-value chips from the Bellagio robbery" to under cover cops in Las Vegas. He even had the balls to be a registered guest at the very casino he is accused of robbing. Carleo is also accused of being the same MotoRobber in the Suncoast Hotel & Casino robbery in December too. Anthony Michael Carleo is the son of Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge George Assad and previously had lived in Pueblo, Colorado where he worked as a real estate broker, owned a portable DJ service and even co-owned a limo rental service with his step-father Gino Carleo. Anthony filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and moved out to Las Vegas to live with his father Mr.Assad who has been a Municipal Court Judge since 2003. Judge Assad was ordered by the Nevada Supreme Court in 08' to attend a Judicial Ethics Classes course after an incident where he ordered a lady in traffic court to be locked up for two hours.
Since the arrest search warrants have been issued for both Carleo's room at the Bellagio and for Judge Assad's home. As soon as we find out more we'll let you know!and so we now have the link for the Bellagio's suspects arrest report here: Suspect Arrested

South Carolina Passes Bill to legalize Poker in your home
YES Poker Surfers that's right. According to www.pokernewsdaily.com, last week South Carolina's Senate Judiciary Committee passed a bill that would change South Carolina's old 1802 law that bans any game w/dice or cards. (yes that includes all other board games w/dice or cards too) This came about after a home was raided back in 06' and the police confiscated $6,000 and charged 22 people with gambling citations. Funny thing is, we never here of police down there raiding home "monopoly" games or church "bingo night" but if it's poker it's "taboo". Well the PPA (Poker Players Alliance www.theppa.org) got involved to help support members who took the case to the supreme court. Now we are all just waiting on the verdict from the supreme court about the case from Mount Pleasant. Good Luck to all!
Really SC a law from 1802?
