  • Daniel Negreaneudueduer (what ever his last name is, I have to have google spell it for me) "Kid Poker" lost around $214k to online player SAUCE123

  • Be sure to text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to the relief fund to help out Japan!
  • NCAA March Madness is underway so here is a nice link for your betting needs NCAA-Time

YO! Poker Surfers and Surfettes as you may or may not know Absolute/UB's Bad Beat Jackpot was hit last night Feb.28th around 10:58pm EST and the loser/big winner was a player named ODESSA99 and we have the hand and stakes they were hit at!

The Bad Beat Jackpot was over the $1MILLION mark when ODESSA99 lost with Quad Queens in the big blind against Quad Kings from FARFLUNG in early position. Here's the play by play:

The stakes were $.50/1.00 Limit Hold'em

  • FARFLUNG was in early position with KK and just called, then it was folded around to
  • ODESSA99 who woke up in the small blind with QQ (of suit too!) and raised to $1 the big blind
  • ROSTER XXX called with who knows what and FARFLUNG called then the flop was
  • Kd Jc Qh and ODESSA99 bet out $.50 and big blind ROSTER XXX folded (probably to go watch some xxx) and FARFLUNG in early position raised to $1 then ODESSA99 re-raises to $1.50 and FARFLUNG calls.
  • Turn is a Qd and ODESSA99 checks it while FARFLUNG bets out $1 and ODESSA99 re-raises to $2 and FARFLUNG calls, now the....
  • River is a K of spades (not the Kd like in The Micros) now ODESSA99 bets $1 and FARFLUNG re-raises to $2 and ODESSA99 re-raises to $3 and FARFLUNG caps it to $4 and ODESSA99 calls..

High Stakes Poker Season 7 Debut on GSN and Blows!!!

YO! Poker Surfers and Surfettes!

GSN's High Stakes Poker Season 7 debuted last night and unfortunately we watched it. Usually we're not to hard on some poker tv, because we love it however this show was just a tragedy. Here's a review

First it's obviously devoid of players like Tom Dwan, Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey, Eli Elezra and any other Full Tilt Poker pro because Poker Stars want's the exclusive on that. Well that's just stupid, now you're missing out on some of the biggest cash game players and the interaction  that they have with the other players at the table along with built in reputations and characteristics. So that sucks. Then there's the host Norm MacDonald who you couldn't half way tell on SNL if he was trying to be funny or not and it's worst on this show.  The decision to place him as the host seems to be single handedly one of the stupidest decisions EVER for a poker show, EVER. Now luckily Kara Scott is back and at least she's hot, even though the interviews are pretty much pointless she makes up for it in just her talking. She has a nice sounding voice and good presence on camera.
The show brought in some wealthy amateurs like Robert Croak the inventor of SillyBrandz, Bill Klein a retired businessman and Treasure Island Hotel and Casino owner and BILLIONAIRE Phil Ruffin. Ruffin actually donates all his winnings to charity and matches any loses he incurs and donates that too! So you would think the pro's would be happy about this money sitting at the table but (editing probably had some play in this too) in one of the first hands Vanessa Selbest (who is as boring as still water) gets in a hand with amateur Robert Croak who in trying to feel out her bluff raise and he asks her "how much do you have behind?" now that is a good question and tactic, however it's usually seen in tournaments to see if that person is worried about their tournament life being at stake and get some sort of tell/read off of them. It's also used in cash games to feel them out b/c knowing you might lose your dough will usually give a tell too. Well he ends up calling and she loses her AQos against his JJ. Now after that Doyle Brunson for some reason pipes up and tells Croak that if someone asks him that question he doesn't tell them because it's right in front of them and Doyle said it in such away that it was like he was trying to establish who the "top dogs" were at the table, or maybe he was just taking up for Selbest but it just came across rude and Croak was very apologetic. As a side note, the game has changed. There may be "pro's" out there but they don't make their money anymore from winnings. They make it from sponsorships and paid engagements regardless of winning or losing. The "pro's" sit down with "amateurs" and say they have an advantage but they don't b/c these "amateurs" play regularly and have way more money behind them in cash games then the "pro's", save for Phil Ivey and others who got in on the ground floor with FT.  Like we said though, Doyle was probably just trying to take up for Selbest.
Another notable amateur mistake that was the only real entertaining part of the show was when "amateur" Bill Klein tried to raise out of turn, but instead of it seeming light hearted everyone was just frozen and not at all warmed up even though you know this was several hours of play edited for tv.
All in all this first episode sucked, but we'll keep you tuned in on the next one, we're hoping it's light years better!

Have fun surfing the tables and hitting the waves!

Rip Curl of Poker News

Poker Surfers and Surfettes here it is!

RIP CURL:Poker News

  • World Poker Tour is back! WPT Season IX debuted Sunday on FSN-Fox Sports Network and of course Mr. Vince Van Patten and the PPA advocate Mike Sexton are back to give the play by plays.
  • Full Tilt Poker has signed a "mindset coach". Sam Chauhan has helped several top poker pro's with their game and now has signed a deal w/the US's top poker site in order to host a "Mindset Academy". The goal is to help as many players as possible with their "tilt control" and improve their game. Visit Sam's site here at www.changingyou.com
  • Gus Hansen is up over $5 Million since October of 2010 and is still in the black for 2011. Hopefully the "Great Dane" will have a great year.
  • Peter Eastgate announced he was coming out of retirement after being gone for the blink of any eye and selling his WSOP bracelet via Ebay. But in his defense he did say he "retired" b/c he lost focus of what was important to him and lost his love of the game. Hopefully the break has re-ignited his love of the game. Good luck easty!
  • Jeremy Johnson dumped millions away playing on Full Tilt and PokerStars. Who is Jeremy Johnson, well he is one of the main guys attached to the companies IWorks and Elite Debit. Two companies under investigation of the FTC-Federal Trade Commission for fraud after allegedly scamming over $270 Million from people across the nation in fake memberships for false services. The commission had the co's assets frozen but notice several millions of dollars were missing. Johnson had been living it up in Vegas gambling and playing in some of the highest nose-bleed tourney's on Full Tilt and PokerStars.

Gabe Kaplan no longer the host of GSN's High Stakes Poker season 7

whhhhoooa that's right poker surfers Gabe Kaplan is not the host of this seasons High Stakes Poker on GSN. who will it be........NORM MACDONALD....uh yeah Norm MacDonald, the boring guy from Saturday Night Live aka Mr. Dry Sense of Humor. Ok so we're not really thrilled about that but lets face it, after they let AJ Benza go the chemistry was never the same. Kara Scott will still be on as the hostess on the floor talking to the pros' but she won't be talking to any Full Tilt Poker pro's since they won't be on this season. Yeah you heard right, no FT pros b/c PokerStars snuck in and bought out the sponsorship rights so FT isn't having any of their pro's on. So no Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Eli Elezra, Gus Hansen, etc.. but you'll still have Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu negraenu (whatever) Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, Andrew Robl, Phil Galfond, Vanessa Selbst, Jason Mercier, Jonathan Duhamel and Johnny Chan just to name a few.  We'll see how this season goes, it starts Feb.26 at 8pm and was filmed at the Bellagio.

Side note, it will aslo be shown in  3-D. Because that obviously makes sense right, kinda like having Norm MacDonald as the host. Anyway good luck GSN

Rip Curl: Bellagio Robbery Suspect is a Judge's Son

yeah Poker Surfers it's your Rip Curl of quick poker news

This Wednesday a 29yr. son of a judge was arrested in connection with the Bellagio Robbery back in December. The suspect is Anthony Michael Carleo (not Michale Corleone he was not real, but still smarter) who tried selling "High-value chips from the Bellagio robbery" to under cover cops in Las Vegas. He even had the balls to be a registered guest at the very casino he is accused of robbing.  Carleo is also accused of being the same MotoRobber in the Suncoast Hotel & Casino robbery in December too. Anthony Michael Carleo is the son of Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge George Assad and previously had lived in Pueblo, Colorado where he worked as a real estate broker, owned a portable DJ service and even co-owned a limo rental service with his step-father Gino Carleo. Anthony filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and moved out to Las Vegas to live with his father Mr.Assad who has been a Municipal Court Judge since 2003. Judge Assad was ordered by the Nevada Supreme Court in 08' to attend a Judicial Ethics Classes course after an incident where he ordered a lady in traffic court to be locked up for two hours.
Since the arrest search warrants have been issued for both Carleo's room at the Bellagio and for Judge Assad's home.  As soon as we find out more we'll let you know!and so we now have the link for the Bellagio's suspects arrest report here: Suspect Arrested

South Carolina Passes Bill to legalize Poker in your home

YES Poker Surfers that's right.  According to www.pokernewsdaily.com, last week South Carolina's Senate Judiciary Committee passed a bill that would change South Carolina's old 1802 law that bans any game w/dice or cards. (yes that includes all other board games w/dice or cards too) This came about after a home was raided back in 06' and the police confiscated $6,000 and charged 22 people with gambling citations. Funny thing is, we never here of police down there raiding home "monopoly" games or church "bingo night" but if it's poker it's "taboo".   Well the PPA (Poker Players Alliance www.theppa.org) got involved to help support members who took the case to the supreme court.  Now we are all just waiting on the verdict from the supreme court about the case from Mount Pleasant. Good Luck to all!

Really SC a law from 1802?

Tidal Wave of Poker News!

Alright Poker Surfers and Surfettes here is you Tidal Wave of poker news

First and Foremost here is an update on the Aussie Millions

  • Erik Sidel took down the Super High Roller Event for a cool AUD$2.5 Million, Sam Tricket came in 2nd for AUD$1.5 Million and David Benyamine finished 3rd for AUD$1 Million. Why call it the Super High Roller Event? well b/c the buy in was a staggering $250,000 yeah so only 20 people entered and 3 got paid. Notables were Tom Dwan busting out in 18th place rather quickly and Phil Ivey finished 8th
  • Aussie Millions Main Event Won by an Aussie! David Gorr  the 68 yr. old aussie showed that he could take out the likes of  Patrik Antonius aka Adonis (seriously someone ugly that guy up some and give us regular hot guys a chance) who finished at 8th place for AUD$130k and the other younger guys. David Gorr will take home a nice AUD$2 Million.
Now the UB.com UBOC 6 Series, just this weekend left for some major play and pay
  • Event 27 is today. at 4pm and is a $100+9 buy-in NLH Turbo w/Unlimited Rebuys with $100,000 GTD hosted by P0kerH0...and look for that event to have a much bigger prize pool than the GTD for sure.
  • Sunday at 4pm, skip the Pro Bowl game and look to play UBOC's Championship Monster Stack NLH w/a buy-in of $1,000 +50 and $1Million GTD hosted by the newly signed Prahlad Friedman
  • Then on Sunday at 6:30 look for the UBOC $100k GTD NLH Deep Stack Turbo w/a buy-in of $300+20  hosted by TEAM UB bust the pro's out for prizes!
And don't forget the MINI UBOC Events
  • Today at 4pm Mini-UBOC27 NLH Turbo Unlimited Rebuys $10,000 GTD buy-in $10+1

COWABUNGA, SURFS UP!!!   it's a Tidal Wave of poker news coming straight at ya!

Ok Poker Surfers and Surfettes I know we've been gone way to looooong but we're back with some cool ass poker news for you! Here we go! (not like the bud light commercial, more like Tag-Teams "Whoop der it is!")

  • UB.com's UBOC series has been off the charts with major events, but most recently we saw a 3-way chop in the $162 buy-in No Limit Hold'em Deep Stack Sniper event, then a secret 4 way chop in the $2,100 buy in  Super High Roller Event that saw a very cool 387 players with a prize pool of $774,000! 1st place JARFISH scooped a nice $124,000 WOW!
  • GSN's High Stakes Poker is back for season number 7, but not without some sort of controversy.  PokerStars had swung in awhile back and bought up the sponsorship rights to the show, right out from under former sponsor Full Tilt Poker. So the question in the air is "will FT pro's be playing on the show" b/c if not we'll miss some of the games biggest names like Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, and Patrik Antonius. Not to mention Howard Lederer and EDOG! Erik Lindgren.  We do know that Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein and Danile Negraneu, negranu, neg ...how do you spell is freaking name, even google's confused..uh grown man Kid Poker will be returning to the show which will air on it's new night Saturday at 8pm Feb.26.  and for the record it was filmed in the Bellagio.
  • Aussie Millions is underway and at the Aussie Millions Cash Game Patrik Antonius has been killing it! Patrik also had a killer weekend at the Full Tilt Poker tables raking in around $447,000
  • Grown man Kid Poker has said that he's trying to get passed the 50,000 VPP (points) he earned last year on Poker Stars and go for Poker Stars SUPER NOVA or also know as reaching 100,000 points. Read more here Grown Man Kid Poker
  • And Team Cowabunga Poker is still in it at the Global Poker League.

Tidal Wave: Poker News Update

Surfs Up poker surfers and surfettes! here is a Tidal Wave of Poker news!!!!

  • Today may be 1/11/11 but yesterday was 1/10/11 and on that day Intrastate Internet Gambling Bill  passed New Jersey legislation! The bill, now on the desk of Gov. Chris Christie, could become the first of it's kind in the US. It would create ways for casinos like Trumps and Harrahs to operate games online.  for the full story check this link at PokerNewsDaily.com New Jersey Bill
  • "Isildur1" was revealed to be none other than who we all thought he was...yep Chuck Norris! nah just kidding (please don't kill us Mr. Norris) it's Viktor Blom (sorry we thought it was Bloom for awhile, that would've been cool)
  • Peter Jetten became a Full Tilt Poker Red Pro! and much congrats to him. He started off playing freerolls then went on a tear online and in a year turned it into just over $100k!!!  He announced his status like many other do..via the Tweet. He joins the like of another Red Pro, you might have heard of him.....Micheal "the grinder" Mizrachi
  • PokerStars announced it's new "Home Game" feature. This feature allows players to create private clubs and hold their own tourneys with friends or whomever they decided to invite. While this is cool and all, it's not really new. This concept and structure has been around for awhile on sites like UB/Absolute and Full Tilt. The only major difference is that you do not have to maintain a status level to do so on PokerStars like you did on the other sites. Hopefully though now the other sites will do the same and offer it to all level of players
  • Cowabunga Poker Pro Johnny Kahuna has started his own blog at JohnnyKahuna.com and seems to have re-dedicated his determination to success and we appreciate it...COWABUNGA Johnny! hang in there! we believe in you

Isildur1 is Viktor Bloom!

Yo poker surfers and surfettes it has been officially confirmed by PokerStars that "Isildur1" is actually Viktor Bloom.

Of course everyone kinda already guessed that it might be Viktor Bloom (how cool is that name) and at the PokerStars PCA High Rollers Championship they revealed that he was the online super high stakes player.

Nick Schulman Poker Pro back in it!

You may remember Nick Schulman from MTV's famous tv show World of Jenks. A show where the host, Andrew Jenks, follows someone around in a documentary style of filming and sees what it's like to be in their "world".  Nick Schulman's episode was a rags-to-riches-back to-rags kinda story. In brief he talked about winning the WPT No-Limit Holdem Chapionship at Foxwoods for just over $2million and afterwards going broke(see video below). Having said all of that we'd like to say Nick Schulman is back at it!!!

PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $100k buy in Super High Roller Event is down to 7 players and 5 get paid.  Who leads the table right now...that's right Nick Schulman! Here's the chip break down

  1. Nick Schulman           2,990,000
  2. Daniel Negreanu         2,160,000
  3. Eugene Katchalov       1,476,000
  4. Bryan Kenney             1,390,000
  5. Humberto Brenes           756,000
  6. Sandor Demjan              379,000
  7. Andrew Lichtenberger    373,000
Good Luck Nick, but be on the look out for Daniel. He wants that win so he can take over Phil Ivey's spot on the all time money winning list.

Phil Hellmuth Interview about leaving UB.com (Ultimate Bet)

That's right surfers and surfettes. In a interview with CardPlayer.com Phil Hellmuth discusses his recent departure from UB.com and what my lie in store for his future....Dancing? Aria? Full Tilt or PokerStars?

here's a small excerpt:

JR: Can you tell us about your other endorsements?

PH: I already represent the WSOP Academy and Aria. Those deals are already in place and won’t be affected by any decision I make in regards to an online site. I mean, I wore the Aria logo on the front of my hat for three or four international shows for Poker After Dark. Now, those shows are going to be shown in more than 50 countries. Those episodes are going to be played over and over again simply because for some reason, people like to watch the craziness that is Phil Hellmuth, the poker brat. That’s millions of dollars of unexpected exposure for Aria simply because they happened to be my primary sponsor after I started moving away from UB in November.

Poker Tracking Software

PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier said today via Twitter that he does not use a poker tracking software such as Holdem Manager. Holdem Manager is as you probably know a poker tracking software that is used by many online poker players. (Poker Tracker is another name brand and is very good too.)  In the near future we will be posting graphs from resident Cowabunga Poker Pro Johnny Kahuna's Holdem Manager. This software is used to import your hand history from a poker site that you play on and is much like having a "replay" button for every hand you were in. (it is not to be used for data mining, most sites have fixed this problem anyway)

Holdem Manager also allows you to see stats on other players that you might not typically remember. Such as how often a player limps in the pot, how often do they 3 bet pre-flop or do they fold to 3 bets etc... These are stats that you yourself could keep up with if you could write down at about a million times per hour. Programs like this come in very handy for looking at your game play and fixing any leaks you may have in your game.

For more information feel free to contact us.
